HD Cable - Watching TV In All Its Glory
Ever since television was invented it has taken the world by storm, nowadays we don’t have to worry about
creating our own entertainment. TV has come a long way since it was first created. First it was in black and white,
and then it was available in color. Now though television has become even more sophisticated with HD cable. High
Definition Television or HDTV is making television much more realistic.
If you live in Australia, England, Japan or the USA then you have probably already experienced HDTV and how
fantastic it really is. There are lots of differences between Standard definition and high definition television.
The most important difference is a larger picture resolution. The other differences are 16:9 widescreen supported
as standard, and also natively being able to support surround sound audio tracks.
Resolution
The increased resolution is what most people will experience. This gives the picture a much clearer and more
realistic appearance. Standard TV broadcast in NTSC has 525 horizontal lines; PAL TV used in Japan and Europe is
slightly more detailed and has 625 lines. However the actual lines used to make the picture with both PAL and NTSC
TV is less than the number quoted. This means that the picture isn’t as realistic as you might expect.
High Definition TV is making TV much more realistic. It is broadcast in two different formats known as 720p and
1080i. 1080i is known as Full HD. These numbers refer to the number of lines used to make the picture. 720p is
progressive scan, and 1080i is interlaced. Both of these forms of HDTV are much better quality than traditional
television broadcasts.
Aspect Ratio
High definition is also broadcast in 16:9 widescreen as standard. This means that none of the TV shows or movies
will be letterboxed or distorted in any other way. A standard aspect ratio is fantastic news for all TV lovers.
Sound
HDTV supports multichannel surround sound tracks which includes Dolby Digital. This means that TV broadcasts
will be broadcast in full surround sound. Watch HD cable TV in full surround sound instead of just watching
DVDs.
Receiving HD Cable
If you are interested in receiving HDTV then you will need a HDTV receiver and a HD Ready TV. HDTV can be
received through satellite or cable TV. The channels which are broadcast in HDTV will vary depending on the country
that you are located in.
The future has a lot of exciting things in store for TV. There is lots of new technology which is being created
to increase what cable TV operators can do with their cable. Eventually they will be able to offer the same number
of channels as satellite TV companies and perhaps even more. Cable companies are all moving with the times and
doing the best to stay ahead of the competition.
HDTV isn’t that popular or common at the moment but it certainly will take off when it becomes easier to
receive. There are only a small number of HD cable channels available at the moment but this is likely to increase
in the near future.
Many DVRs are also receiving the HD treatment which will also mean that we will all be able to record our
favorite shows in full high definition format and watch them when we have more time. Both cable and satellite TV
providers will offer high definition TV packages; it's not clear which one will win either.
